About Our Dispatch System:

The Patton Village Police Department is fortunate to be part of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department centralized dispatch system.  In this system, all calls are directed to the Sheriff's Dispatcher, and then to the appropriate law enforcement unit.  The benefit to area law enforcement is that ALL officers working in a designated area are aware of all happenings in that area in real time.  This helps towards officer safety, intelligence gathering/sharing and response times.  The benefit to the community -  If our officers are tied up on another call, through this mutual aid agreement, you will still receive a response from another agency, in an emergency situation, until our officer is freed up from the other call.

A big question that we receive from the citizens is what number to call for police service.  There are 2 very basic types of calls that police departments respond to - Emergency Calls and Routine Calls for Service.  Here are a couple of guidelines on this issue:

Emergency Calls - Emergency calls are just that - an emergency.  There may be a life threatening situation, or an imminent need for an officer to respond directly to your location.  911 is the preferred method for contacting your officer in this respect.  Sometimes expedience can be an emergency.  You may see something that requires an immediate response, even though it might not be a life threatening emergency.  These situations merit a call to 911 as well.  911 calls go in to the dispatcher ahead of all other calls.

Calls for Service - This is where a person is in need of general police services.  These calls are more directed towards report calls, informational calls, low priority disturbance calls, and general 'need to talk to a police officer' calls.  Since the telephone service is long distance for most of our citizens to call the Sheriff's Office, a special number has been set up and forwarded permanently to the Sheriff's Department for your convenience.  Our local dispatch phone number is 281-399-2310.

Non Emergency and General Business - The Patton Village Police Department has a general public phone number that is utilized for day to day police department business.  This phone may be manned by a live person or may be handled through our automated system.  In either case, we prefer to not receive calls for service on this phone line.  Even in an emergency situation, the person on the phone has to call the dispatcher and relay the information for you.  This is time consuming and results in a delay of service to you.  If you have questions on your case, need specific information, or just want to speak to an officer on the phone, call 281-689-9511 and you will be assisted.

Something to remember, and something that we take into consideration, not all calls for service are actually emergency calls.  The dispatcher and the officer on the street "prioritize" calls as they come in.  Some calls, based on the actual information received, previous information received, and the officer's general knowledge of his area and situations ongoing, put some calls ahead of others.  In this case, your response may be delayed.  Please know that we will attend to your needs as expeditiously as we can.  Be sure to tell the dispatcher exactly what is going on, be as descriptive as possible of the situation and make sure that they have your exact address, house description, phone number and any other information that may be helpful in responding to your needs.
